About Us

Our Story

We are a family run, privately owned underwriting agency working out of Colchester, Essex. Established in 2011 we work closely with capacity providers to bring solutions to the SME market. Our CEO has operated binding authorities within Lloyds and the London market for over 30 years  and our experienced team of underwriters have decades of combined experience working within the London Market operating binding authorities. We are an active Lloyds of London coverholder and a member of the MGAA (Managing General Agents Association).

Our Team

David Haynes (Director) Chartered Insurer, ACII

Dave joined his fathers underwriting agency as a junior underwriter and general dogsbody straight out of university and has been working within the underwriting sector ever since. Dave most recently had a stint working for a London Market Insurer within Lloyds. 

Former Essex youth cricketer and optimistic golfer, when not in the office you will usually find him on “a Course”

Steve Haynes (CEO) Chartered Insurer, FCII 

Steve started his career over 50 years ago spending his early years in broking roles across various lines of business. Steve has spent the past 30 years running successful MGA’s writing business with the SME sector. 

Steve is an experienced sailor. He has competed in the Fastnet race on multiple occasions and has sailed as crew across the Atlantic.

Peter Clark (New business underwriter)

Peter has spent his entire career operating within the London market as both a broker and an underwriter. Peter has been with Matrix since 2014 and is largely focused on new business enquiries. 

Peter is a keen sports fan and when not shouting at his beloved Crystal palace he can be found gracing the tennis courts of Colchester.

Stephen Wynn (Renewals Underwriter)

Steve has worked within insurance his entire career. Starting out 40+ years ago as a junior underwriter for Minster Insurance Company he has held various underwriting roles within Lloyds and the company market. Most recently running his own underwriting agency prior to joining Matrix. 

Although an avid gooner he is still a valued member of the team and the resident latte aficionado.
